MCTS SQL Server 2005

What scares me about the 70-431 exam is the huge amount of complicated
T-SQL commands. Look at the syntax of any T-SQL command with all its
options; many many options, how can I remember them. Do I need to
remember all these instructions for the exam. Please let me know.If you learn it, you don't have to remember it :) On top of that, I think it
is an easier test than 7.0 or 2000. Just practice and understand why and you
will be fine.

70-431 was mutch easier that 70-228/70-229 and 70-028/029
but the follow ups 70-441/70-442 and 70-443/70-444
are more complicated that SQL2000 or SQL7 exams
what is good - You can optain quite easyly MCTS SQL2005
What I can recomment - for repeating, self training and getting the point of
real tests - go thorugh some preparation provider material (measureup or
something like)
But the main point is - You dont know exact syntacs or exact options for
every single thing (I don't know for example and in real life BOL is always
opened on my hand, during work, during traiining etc - unfortunately not
allowed during exams :))
You have to know and understand the principles of things. The structure, the
goal, the reason and the target of sql sentences.
As I remember - there wasn't so much in 431 about performance stuff

70-431 was mutch easier that 70-228/70-229 and 70-028/029
but the follow ups 70-441/70-442 and 70-443/70-444
are more complicated that SQL2000 or SQL7 exams

used the SQL 2005 Books Online (The Documentation) and cleared MCTS. What I would

suggest is match the Index (get it from the MS Site) for the MCTS course and

use the SQL 2005 BOL to prepare on those topics. They are more than sufficient.

I am looking for good documentation and examples to use to 'study' for Microsoft exam 70-431. This has everything to do with nuts-and-bolts Database Administration of SQL Server 2005.

The December BOL examples, do not cover enough topics. The topics that are covered are not in enough detail. The 70-431 exam requirements are very detailed.

This seems to be a nuts-and-bolts test. I am looking for nuts-and-bolts study material.

No books are published yet.

Does anyone have any good ideas on where to find 'good' samples and tutorials meant for a person who is studying for the new Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Database Administrator Exam MCTS 70-431?

I'm in a bit of a pinch because my secondary PC has an older OS that won't work with the CD. It's a Windows 98 and I would need to upgrade to 2000 Pro. I really don't have the money to do that right now and I'm wondering how risky it would be to use my primary PC. Would you be able to tell me what types of changes are made that could put my PC at risk and what the worst case scenario would be?

Since you're not going to build a cluster with the 70-431 exam content, then you don't need Virtual Server. Virtual PC will work just fine. That's where I recommend that you do all of your testing. The primary reason is that it provides an isolated environment for your testing that won't impact other things. The second reason is that it becomes a self-contained image. So, you can build the base environment once, stop Virtual PC, make a copy of the .vhd & .vmc files, and then start everything back up. If you blow something up or just want to reset everything, all you have to do is shut down the VPC image and copy the .vhd and .vmc files back over.

All of the instructions for setup are done from a VERY conservative standpoint. I don't necessarily agree with that particular one, but I got overruled. The SQL Server setup is going to drop .NET Framework 2.0 on your machine along with the Native Access Client and some setup support files. It then installs everything else which includes services and some other things.

It obviously isn't dangerous to do, you just have more software on your machine to contend with and SQL Server is completely stable. For testing/training environments, we're always going to recommend finding a machine you can blow up so that you can play as much as you want without having to worry about impacting anything else you are doing.

Read through cover to cover o'reilly's "Learning SQL on SQL Server 2005"

Took MS official course 2780 and then went back cover to cover with the issued book.

Read through cover to cover MCTS 70-431 self-paced training kit.

Went through practice exams questions (from above book, included with

purchase) until scored above 80% consistently. Reread weak sections in

book

Transcender exam questions until scored 90% consistently.

Made flash cards to go through a few times a day.

Build test system from ground up with replication and auto-fail mirroring.

I passed and I knew very little when I started, so i guess this worked, atleast for me!sql

Hi, I am about to take a MCTS 70-431 exam next week.

I tried to find few information regarding this exam, but I cannot find what I need at Microsoft site.

I wonder if anyone has taken this exam or knows about any information about this exam.

Q1: About 40
Q2: 700 Answers are scored different, so it is about 70% of the questions answered)
Q3: its all about knowing the database, maintaining, designing, working, syntax, indexes. Its really easy to get thorugh the test if you have some practise.
Q4: There are special offers which might get you the opportunity to retake the exam for a lower price or no fees at all. Refer to the www.microsoft.com/mcp for more information.

MCDBA or MCTS

For my last 3 years I have work with the SQL 2000 as a database analysis.Now I want to get a certification to prepare me to look for a better job.Which certification is more valuable in today job marker MCTS or MCDBA.

That would be easy. MCTS - SQL Server, MCITP - Database Administrator, or MCITP - Database Developer. Why? MCDBA is a SQL Server 2000 certification. MCTS - SQL Server is the Microsoft Certfied Technical Specialist - SQL Server which is for SQL Server 2005. After attaining your MCTS in SQL Server (70-431), you can take two exams to get the MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional) Database Administrator (70-443 and 70-444) or you can take two exams (70-441 and 70-442) to get your MCITP - Database Developer.

The MCDBA is the old cert and the MCTS/MCITP is the new certification.

Indeed, you don't gain any benefits when doing MCDBA. The only benefit you could have is to gain some extra knowledge when studying for the exam but since you allready have some experience this will be limited.

There is an upgrade track from MCDBA to MCITP Administrator but this is only for the administrator track and not for the Development or Business Intelligence track.

On of the problems that I faced is my friend’s suggestion which was reading as much as I can in TestKing Examples for MCITP course because it give similar questions with description of best questions.

I VERY strongly discourage using a source such as TestKing. That company is in the business of ripping off certification exams and then selling answers to whomever is dumb enough to buy them. The person then passes the exams and gets a piece of paper that is truly worthless, because they have no clue how to actually work with a SQL Server. Copying off someone else's paper is cheating. It was cheating when you were 6 and it is still cheating no matter how old you get. What people need to realize is that this is a VERY small industry. I run across people at customer sites that I had worked with 15 years before. It's also not uncommon for me to be involved in interview processes at various customers and see the resumes for the same people at multiple companies spanning numerous states. I remember every single person that I've ever come across who had certifications and obtained those certifications by cheating their way through the exams. Those people will NEVER get hired at any company that I deal with and when I encounter them already working at a customer of mine, I also let the management know that I am aware of them having cheated their way to a certification.

The certification is intended to offer a base level of proof that you have achieved a basic level of knowledge in a subject, just like a diploma or a degree. A DBA is placed is a position requiring a very high level of trust. Does anyone really think that a company is going to keep someone around with access to their most sensitive data when they find out that person is a known cheat?

Take the time to learn SQL Server. Pick up books, ask questions, and USE the product. If you know SQL Server, you will have no problem passing the exam. Thousands of other people before you have already passed the exams. If you have to resort to cheating your way through, I would strongly suggest that you find another career, because if you don't have enough respect for yourself to do something honestly, this industry does not want you.

i would like to clarify my last post,

i am working as a programmer SQL Server since 5 years, but i modified my specialization to focus only on the Server side;

because i did not earn any exam before and i was not plan to do it, i did not care about the methodical way to start earn this certification,

when i visited Microsoft website, i saw various kind of exams and prerequisites to earn MCITP certificate and in fact i was confused,

that is way i asked this question
